Hi, hi, hi! :)
I wanted to give a little hello to introduce you to today's blog, so watch the video above! (Of course, my nose had to have some sort of itch fit to start things off, so don't mind all of my very apparent nose rubbin' -- imperfection at its finest, but we'll survive!).
So, I haven't updated you on my personal health journey in a while. This past year I gave myself permission to focus strictly on healing. Not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too. Going through a divorce is no joke. It has been one of the craziest times of my life. Heartbreaking and challenging, it has been a complete rollercoaster ride as I focused on getting my heart right, adjusting to life on my own, and a new direction. My walk hasn't been perfect. But yet somehow, there has been something so completely beautiful over the course of the past year. And while not proud, I am convinced that divorce has been a part of my healing story. I've pressed into God more than ever before, found an inner strength that I never knew existed (His strength), relied solely on our Creator, learned what it means to be a woman of grace and how to walk with a Godly confidence, and realized my value as a daughter of The Highest King. It also led me to ask myself 4 very important questions on my walk towards healing. And guess what? My body feels stronger and more resilient than ever! I believe these same 4 questions are absolutely essential for YOU to unlock a miraculous healing in your own life too! Be honest with yourself. Take some time to reflect. And pray.
**Disclaimer: Sometimes our healing is not when we want it, or how we might expect. But in my Biblical reading and experiences, God never hesitates. Jesus loves us so much and never abandons us. He always shows up. And just as He calls His disciples to follow Him NOW, He also heals in the NOW time and time again in Scripture (examples to follow). The real underlying question is - are you standing in His way?**
1. Do you believe?
I stumbled upon the bleeding woman in Mark 5. This hemorrhaging woman is also found in Matthew 9.
"And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse." (Mark 5:25)
Is this you? It was me. I completely resonated with this woman. Doctor after doctor. No answers. Feeling lost and alone. Hopeless. But yet, then a miracle happens.
"Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She had said to herself 'If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.' Jesus turned and saw her. 'Take heart, daughter,' he said, 'your faith has healed you.' And the woman was healed at that moment." (Matthew 9:20-22)
In that very moment, her faith is what healed her. Her faith! Do YOU have that kind of faith? Do you feel worthy enough to accept God's healing? Or are you holding onto guilt and shame from your past that might be hindering you from experiencing it? Maybe you are still living a life of sin and need to confess and repent? Lay it down. Now. Go to Him. Cleanse yourself from your past; let His love and grace wash over you. Realize that you are a child of God. He has made you worthy. Believe. Open yourself up to experiencing His great abundance. Have faith!
2. What aren't you letting go of?
This is going to be a confronting question. It was a tough one for me to be honest about. Whether it is a diagnosis, grief, anger, depression, anxiety, an unhealthy relationship, a debt, an addiction...whatever it is that you are facing and need to break free from...ask yourself how your circumstances are serving you? Because if you are still walking in it, trust me, you are receiving some form of a payoff.
Maybe you can't visualize yourself well because you have been unwell for so long. Maybe you are holding back to keep "safe" from taking a leap of faith. Maybe you are afraid of change. Maybe you are engaging in a form of self-sabotage. Maybe your circumstances are giving you attention you wouldn't otherwise receive. Or maybe you aren't ready to embrace the BIG plans God has set out before you - a life that requires total surrender and obedience. Get honest about how your circumstances are serving you, take it to God, lay it at the cross, and let go. Keep your hands open. Give yourself permission to accept His healing.
3. Where is your identity?
Are you letting your circumstances define you? STOP IT! Your diagnosis, your bank account, your relationship, your addiction, your career---these things do NOT define you. The material things of this world do not define you. People do not define you. These are temporal things. In the end, we take none of it with us. What matters is who God says you are. Get solid in your identity in Jesus Christ - that is your answer.
You are a child of God. You are loved. Worthy. Forgiven. Redeemed. Restored. You will inherit His Kingdom. He has given you authority. And when you put on your armor of God (see Ephesians 6), no fiery dart of this world can pierce you. Nothing can break you.
Change your temporal, worldly mindset into an eternal, Godly mindset. Change your inner dialogue. See with His eyes. Let go of the standards of this world. Let go of labels. Get solid in your identity in Christ alone.
4. What action steps are you avoiding?
God has blessed us with The Spirit. The Living Spirit literally lives within us. We carry with us that power. And I believe we all have the answers we seek within us. So what action step do you know you need to take, and why haven't you taken it yet?
Maybe it is calling a doctor to finally make that appointment. Maybe it is confessing your sins. Maybe it is calling the elders of the church to anoint you with oil (James 5:14). Maybe it is forgiving someone in your past. Maybe it is eating healthier. Maybe it is going for that run. Maybe it is going to God in prayer. Whatever it is...God has not called you to stand idle. He has called you to obey. Follow Him NOW. Take action. Move! Take one small action step today, and let God unravel the next.
Finally, I encourage you to get solid in the Word of God. Fight your battles with His Living Word. Be grounded in His Truth. He is faithful.
Here are a few verses to start with. Read them out loud. Claim them.
He said, "If you listen carefully to the Lord, your God, and do what is right in His eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all of his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought to the Egyptians, for I am the Lord who heals you." (Exodus 15:26)
Lord, my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. (Psalm 30:2)
Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all of his benefits - who forgives all your sings and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion. (Psalm 1032-4)
Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed. Save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise. (Jeremiah 17:14)
Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news to the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. (Matthew 9:35)
God loves you. Be honest with yourself. What changes do you need to make in order to make room and allow a great healing to take place? Get out of your own way!
I pray for God's healing hands to be upon you today. Walk in peace. Trust Him. Have faith. Heal..
